City ready to discuss Foxwoods re-siting; keeping eye on SugarHouse work

  Terry Gillen, senior advisor to Mayor Michael Nutter for economic development, skipped the big Democratic National Convention to work on casino issues.

  “I’ve been here all week, ready to go, at my desk,” she joked.

  The governor, the mayor, the senators and representatives who are also involved in discussions related to the possible relocation of Foxwoods Casino did not skip the Big Event in Colorado.

  “I’ve had no word from the Governor’s office about a working group,” Gillen said.

   But so far as she knows, the goal remains the same as it was last week: Resolution in early September. “We’re ready to talk,” she said of the city team.

   The city was busy with SugarHouse-related issues, too. Representatives from L&I and the water department visited the site all week, making sure that the digging they are doing is in compliance with the rough grading permit issued by the city.

   “So far, we think so,” Gillen said. “But we’re still looking. We’re not completely finished asking questions.” 

   SugarHouse said Friday that all work being conducted on the site is part of an orderly development process and is in full compliance with all permits and approvals that have been  issued to SugarHouse Casino to date.
