Gaming Control Board cited for combating problem gambling

The Pennsylvania Council on Compulsive Gambling has given an award for combating problem gambling to the state agency that monitors casinos.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board received the Council’s first ever award for Outstanding Contribution by a Government Agency in the Field of Problem Gambling on Wednesday, at the Council’s problem gambling conference in Harrisburg.

The award was given in recognition of the PGCB’s “outstanding pioneering efforts in supporting education, awareness and responsible gaming programs,” according to a PGCB press release.

Nanette L. Horner, the PGCB’s office of compulsive and problem gambling director, said that the Board has always been committed to understanding and lessening the devastating effects of pathological gambling. The Board is the only oversight agency in the country to establish a high-level office dedicated to ensuring that slot machine operators establish and maintain compliance with an approved compulsive and problem gambling plan, she said.
