New transit signage in the works
The Center City District, SEPTA and PATCO will unveil a new transit sign system Monday, Oct. 27 at 2:30 p.m. at The Clothespin at Centre Square, 15th and Market Streets.
Center City is the hub of a regional transportation network that brings almost 300,000 passengers downtown each weekday. For many, using the system is a daily routine. But with fuel costs rising, many commuters are choosing transit to get to work, to school, to shop and dine, or to enjoy Center City’s arts and cultural institutions, by day and night. Philadelphia is also enjoying a boom in tourists from cities and countries where transit is the norm.
To make it easier for new riders and visitors to use transit, the CCD, SEPTA and PATCO have developed a new customer-friendly sign system that will be deployed at 100 entrances to train, subway and trolley lines and throughout the 3 1/2 mile underground concourse.
