CED legislation will be read into the record Thursday

Legislation that would allow a casino to operate at The Gallery at Market East will be on Thursday’s City Council Agenda, but no action can be taken until next week’s meeting.

The two bills introduced by Councilman Frank DiCicco were passed out of the Committee On Rules at a special public hearing Saturday, despite five hours of testimony that mostly urged committee members to vote against sending the legislation on to the full council.

Thursday, both bills – one creating a zoning classification called a Commercial Entertainment District that would allow a casino to operate, and one mapping The Gallery with that designation, will be read into the record. Discussion is permitted under council rules, said DiCicco spokesman Brian Abernathy, but usually, none occurs until the voting meeting, which would likely take place Nov. 13.

There will be no public comment period at either meeting (both will be held at 10 a.m. in Room 400, City Hall.
