A summer school student at Northeast High School at Cottman and Algon avenues attacked a school police officer yesterday, sending the officer to the hospital.

A ninth grade student, whose name is being withheld due to age –  “mouthed off” to a female officer, School District Spokeswoman Barbara Farley told the Inquire. The student followed orders to leave the building, but returned, and again made undisclosed comments to the female officer.

When a male officer attempted to take the student into custody, the student struck the officer, causing facial injuries. The officer had to be treated in the hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery. The student has been arrested and suspended.
