Tony Danza started his English-teaching gig at Northeast High on Tuesday. He’s filming Teach, an A&E reality show, at the school. Danza is not certified to teach, but does have a degree in history education. You can hear about his experience on his blog.

Philadelphia Flyer Chris Pronger welcomed AT&T’s newest retail store Wednesday at the Cottman-Bustleton Center, 2107B Cottman Avenue. Pronger signed autographs at a Meet & Greet event on from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting event is slated for the September 24 at 4 p.m.

Northeast Philadelphia high schools Fels and Lincoln opened their new buildings on Tuesday. The new Fels High School is located at 5500 Langdon St. while the new Lincoln building remains at 3201 Ryan Ave.

An inmate at the Philadelphia House of Correction sliced female prison guard Natasha Bryant in the face with a 4-inch piece of metal last Friday at about 2 p.m. while she patrolled a cell block in the general population area. It is unclear why the prisoner attacked the guard. The Philadelphia House of Correction is located at 8001 State Rd.

Dr. Harry C. Silcox examined Northeast Philadelphia‘s key role in the mental-health movement in America. The second part of the article will be published on Sept. 24., discussing the successes and failures of the new mental-health program at Byberry.
