Casinos lobby legislature on table game licensing and tax limits

SugarHouse, Foxwoods, and two other Pennsylvania casinos Thursday sent letters to every state legislator asking them to limit the cost of table games to a one-time $10 million licensing fee and a 12 percent tax rate.

These are the parameters suggested in Senate Bill 1033. To go beyond them, the letter states, “will cause the casinos to consider significantly reducing the number of table games and may even forego table games all together.”

“Such a decision would directly and negatively impact potential revenue and job growth projections tied to table games.”

In addition to the Philadelphia casinos, the letter is signed by Mt. Airy Casino Resort in Mt. Pocono and Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. Chicago billionaire Neil Bluhm is the chief investor in both SugarHouse and Rivers.
