Philadelphia police officer Adrian Makuch, 49, has been charged with prostitution, solicitation, corruption of a minor and for allegedly propositioning a 15-year old boy for sexual contact. Makuch approached an unidentified teen in Northeast Philly in summer 2008 and asked to take naked pictures of the boy in exchange for cash. The boy did not report Makuch until December of that year.

Crime

Hakim Glover, 26, has been sentenced to a one year prison sentence with two years probation for helping his cousin, John Lewis, escape to Florida.  Lewis was sentenced to death one month ago for the Halloween 2007 murder of Officer Chuck Cassidy.

Frankford High School football player Jeffione Thomas was supposedly beaten by two school police officers in October, according to an e-mail from the school’s athletic director. The letter, obtained by the Daily News, says Thomas, not the officer sustained assault injuries.

Joseph Kindler, a Northeast Philadelphia man convicted of murdering his accomplice, David Bernstein, in 1982, could now face the death sentence for his crime. On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed a lower-court ruling that had ruled out any chance of a death sentence for Kindler. Kindler has made multiple escapes since his initial conviction.

Community

Come June, Northeast Philadelphia will be one of the areas involved in Mayor Michael Nutter’s plan to help people get paid for recycling. The program, which will begin in early 2010, will incorporate new neighborhoods each month. Frankford is set to be included by March.

Archaeologists are currently digging up graves at the Knights of Pythias Greenwood Cemetery, located at 930 Adams Avenue, in order to create a space for a parking lot for the Cancer Treatment Center of America.

The robotics team from Northeast High school will be one of six Philadelphia schools to compete in Auburn, Alabama at Auburn University for the BEST (Boosting Engineering Science and Technology) championship. The team must build a remote-controlled robot from a set of components that will be predetermined.

Business

David Dolitsky, the franchise broker of a new automotive franchisee Tilden Car Care Centers will open his first service center this week at the Bluegrass Shopping Center.
