Driver arrested in New Years I-95 crash

Police have arrested the driver responsible for killing two people in a car crash on I-95 New Years Day.

Jesse Maiden, 36, was arrested for driving under the influence. He told authorities he was reaching for a cigarette when he caused the accident.

Maiden crashed his Jeep into the back of a Ford, occupied by 47-year-old Maria Cox and her 45-year-old boyfriend Norman Wilkerson. The two had been involved in a minor accident with a Dodge minivan when Maiden crashed into their vehicle.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. New Years Day, and kept I-95 around Bridge Street closed for six hours. Officers reportedly found marijuana and crack cocaine in Maiden’s Jeep.
