As previously reported on NEast Philly, William Gill, 33, robbed a TD Bank at 3930 Woodhaven Rd. on Jan. 19. Since then, the FBI has figured out more details about Gill, including that he was involved in other crimes such as other bank robberies, stealing a van and stabbing two people. After fleeing the scene of the stabbing, Gill was heard saying that he “Would not be taken alive by cops,” according to authorities.

Despite this claim, reports have said that Gill has been arrested in Fort Lauderdale, Fl., for drug possession under the name of Michael Gill. Gill’s last known residence was at the 5000-block of Homestead Street.

John Curry, a longtime leader of the Fox Chase Recreation Center, forcing him into early retirement. According to the people who know him best, Curry has done a lot for the rec center. Last Friday night, hundreds of the kids that he helped, some young and old, celebrated him at the Plumbers Union Hall on Southampton Road. Curry had been the rec center’s leader since 1995.

St. Dominic’s School students were among the thousands of pro-life advocates in Washington D.C. on Jan. 22 for the 37th annual Rally and March for Life. The event marks the anniversary of the 1973 decision by the Supreme Court to legalize abortion.

Teach Productions, the company which produced Tony Danza’s reality series at Northeast High, donated $75,000 to the school, in order to install air conditioning in the library.

Crime

Trenton, N.J., native Sherman Houser, 32, was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday for the Nov. 2006 robbery of the Bank of America branch at 14425 Bustleton Ave. A week after being paroled from prison, Houser and an accomplice held the employees and customers at gunpoint before taking $70,194.
