Philabundance Opens Produce Distribution Site in West Philly

UC Review: Philabundance Opens Produce Distribution Site in West Philly

Philabundance’s Fresh For All program will open its first West Philadelphia site beginning Wednesday, February 10.  Located in the parking lot at 49th and Spruce Streets, the site will distribute food to the community every Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Philabundance is the region’s largest hunger relief organization, distributing millions of pounds of food a year to citizens in need.  Its mission is to end hunger and malnutrition by providing healthy foods to individuals, families, and communities through a myriad of programs.

Fresh For All is one such program that delivers fresh produce to people with limited access to quality fruits and vegetables.  The program currently has 12 sites in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, regularly serving over 7000 individuals.  The new West Philly site promises to increase the number of people receiving quality produce.  “We anticipate serving about 200 individuals a week at this new FFA site,” says program manager Kelly Hile.  “Our mission is to improve access to fresh produce to those in need in the West Philadelphia community and surrounding neighborhoods who are struggling during these difficult economic times.”
