An Amtrak Northeast Regional train heading toward 30th Street Station struck and killed a man at the Holmesburg Junction station last night. The preliminary investigation shows the death was an apparent suicide.

Pennsylvania State Police have been cracking down on beer distributor’s and bars lately for selling well-known imports without properly registering them with the state Liquor Control Board for sale in Pennsylvania and not paying a required $75 fee. The most recent distributor to be raided is Origlio’s in the Far Northeast, which was raided on Monday. Police apprehended cases and ordered Origlio’s to stop selling various beers.

While there is debate on whether some beers are in fact registered, miscommunication between the Liquor Control Board and the State Police has resulted in confusion as to what has been registered and what has not. State Police proceeded with the raid regardless.

Crime

Two people walking in the woods behind the Lincoln Motel on the 15000 block of Roosevelt Boulevard were looking for deer antlers Wednesday afternoon at around 2:45 p.m. Instead, they discovered a human skull and two bones. According to authorities, the skull belonged to a female between the ages of 25 and 50. Although the skull is completely decomposed, there are still four teeth attached to it. Other various rubble was strewn around as well.

Yesterday’s preliminary hearing for the couple accused of abandoning their four-year son after robbing a South Street‘s Platinum & Ice Jewelry store Feb. 27 will continue April 22. One of the defense attorneys was unavailable in the case against John Benson, 47, of North Philadelphia, and Sheakia Stubbs, 31, of West Philadelphia, according to court officials. Upon being chased by the store’s owner after grabbing jewelry and fleeing, Benson allegedly pulled a weapon, slicing the owner’s face and neck before leaving his son behind. The couple hid out in the Hub Motel before being arrested.
