Right NEast/Wrong NEast: KYW is all over the place

We’re not sure where to begin with this one.

A police officer from the 24th District was injured Friday while trying to take two suspects into custody. Fortunately, the officer will be OK. Which allows us now to turn our focus to geographical mess KYW made out of the story.

Let’s start by saying the 24th District is not in the Northeast. So from the start, that should tip off KYW’s reporters that none of the story should take place in the Northeast. And yet, the article clearly states that the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Somerset Street in the Northeast.

We know we’re being a little picky here, but we should also point out that said intersection is not in Port Richmond, either, though the story also makes that claim.

Some advice for reporters who are unfamiliar with the city: Port Richmond and Kensington are two separate neighborhoods. Neither are in the Northeast.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
