Make a Call for America’s Treasures and Voice Your Support for Preservation Funding

A message from the National Trust for Historic Preservation:

All grassroots advocacy campaigns have critical moments – here’s ours.

Your lawmakers are back home right now while Congress is closed for its annual Spring Recess. During this recess, they are hoping to hear from constituents on local issues that matter, so we’re asking you to pick up the phone to ask them to support funding for critical preservation efforts.

As it stands now, we could lose two programs in their entirety – Save America’s Treasures and Preserve America – and critical funding for National Heritage Areas. These are programs that have not only helped revitalize communities and preserve iconic historic sites, they have created tens of thousands of jobs that our country needs.

What you can do:

  • Make a call for America’s treasures sometime this week. Follow these easy instructions and tips on how to contact your Members of Congress in their district offices and ask them to restore funding for Save America’s Treasures, Preserve America, and National Heritage Areas at the FY 2010 amounts.
  • Make a bigger impact. RSVP for our Facebook “Make a Call” event. This will help spread the word on just how easy it is to make a difference.
  • Make a donation to support our Saving America’s Treasures campaign. Your gift will support our public education campaign showing the link between saving America’s heritage and saving America’s jobs.

Thank you for your support on this important issue. Make no mistake – we have heard that our grassroots efforts are having an impact on Congress. Your outreach over this Spring Recess and your personal stories as a concerned preservationist will be what your Members of Congress remember when it counts.
