Block captains from every corner of the city led residents on this year’s spring clean up Saturday, April 10th.

But in addition to weeding and garbage removal, residents along the 4900 block of Cedar Ave- also participated in a bit of Gorilla Art warfare.

It was a battle waged against none other than potholes. “We have been dealing with a miserable pot hole situation for the past five years,” said block captain Jeff Lutzner, explaining that when the Street Department is called, it dispatches a machine that spits out cinders to fill the holes.”

“Within 24 hours,” Lutzner continued, “all of the cinders are split away.”

That’s why when the street was blocked off for this year’s spring-cleaning, Lutzner and other residents planted flowers in the potholes.

“Someone in Europe did something similar as a form of protest,” said Lutzner, adding that he hopes this measure proves effective and the 4900 block of Cedar Ave will no longer remain plagued with such dangerous blemishes.
