Right NEast/Wrong NEast: Mayfair is expanding

If you’re looking for something to do any time, any place in Philadelphia, you can find it on uwishunu.

But since the site is sponsored by the city’s tourism board, and tourists don’t typically visit the Northeast, don’t rely on uwishunu for neighborhood information from our region.

Case in point: Burger Bar/Gallo’s Seafood. Both located at Roosevelt Boulevard and Holme Avenue at Pennypack Circle. Translation: definitely not Mayfair. But, um, uwishunu calls that Mayfair.

Here’s what neighborhoods we would have accepted: Lexington Park, Pennypack, Holme Circle. But once you cross Cottman Avenue going north on the Boulevard, you’re not in Mayfair anymore. And if that doesn’t convince you, Burger Bar/Gallo’s 19152 zip code should.

It’d be nice if the tourism board had a better grasp on the Northeast, even if the tourists aren’t flooding our region.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
