Weekend News Briefs: 5/21-5/23

Friday — Police questioned an Academy Gardens man Friday night in connection with an early evening hit and run. A 13-year-old boy was struck at Frankford Avenue and Academy Road around 6:30 p.m. Friday. Based off a description of the vehicle and the driver, police were able to track down a question a man on the 9300-block of Cloverly Road. The boy was treated at Aria Health-Torresdale and is in stable condition. No word on whether an arrest has been made.

Sunday — A fire at Worldwide Aquarium & Pets displaced the store’s animals early Sunday morning. The fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. in the Tacony store, and a man walking his dog asked a nearby bus driver to call 911. The animals were examined by the SPCA, and will find new homes until the store is deemed suitable for use.
