Weekend News Briefs: 8/27 – 8/29

Friday — It was reported over the weekend that Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz’s office was threatened Wednesday. Northeast resident Jesse Keel, 44, called Schwartz’s office Wednesday to report a problem. When he felt the answer he received wasn’t helpful, Keel reportedly threatened the congresswoman. Though he was discharged from a hospital, Keel will now undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine if he can stand trial.

Saturday — A man wanted for four bank robberies — including one on the 2500-block of Welsh Road has been arrested and charged. Forty-four-year-old Anthony Wayne Ransom escaped from a North Philadelphia halfway house in June. Since then, Ransom was suspected of three Abington bank robberies and the July 12 robbery of a Citizens Bank branch on Welsh Road. Ransom turned himself in Thursday.

West Frankford Town Watch reports (via email) an underage club near Bridge and Darrah streets was shut down late Saturday night. The club, located behind PT’s Pub, has caused problems before, Town Watch President Mike Mawson said. Police made six arrests at the club for disorderly conduct Saturday.
