Council to hear public comments and vote on a six story video billboard facing motorists on Ben Franklin Bridge and local residents.

Message to Council : Amend Bill 100552-. No Jumbotrons in Old City!

Dear Friends and Members of SCRUB, Your Voice has been heard!
Thank you so much for all your letters and communications to Philadelphia City Council. Council has reported over 200 emails and letters received on the issue of a project proposed for Old City to include a controversial full motion video billboard and live entertainment.

We believe local communities should decide:

Whether to have billboards

Where to put them
How distracting they should be

Old City businesses and residents have clearly stated that they do not want sign and use overlays lifted to allow this towering, dazzling  billboard!

A spokesman from AAA testified on Thursday that this sign would be a dangerous distraction to drivers.  Residents and taxpayers tesitified against circumventing a public interest law to accommodate a special interest developer.

Throughout the country, our most cherished scenic resources and hometown assets are being obscured by a blizzard of billboards – digital and standard – that have been put up despite local laws and local objections.Philadelphia has the laws. Do we have a city council and a mayor who will honor them?
