Right NEast/Wrong NEast: Obituary mistake clouds honor

Father Graham, Pastor of St. Jerome’s Parish, passed away  just a few days after Christmas. His parishioners set up a Facebook page in his memory, and the Inquirer yesterday featured a full obituary detailing his accomplishments.

Unfortunately, as often happens when large media outlets try to do something local, the sentiment is ruined by a careless mistake. Father Graham served the parish for more than two decades. It sits in Winchester Park and serves Holme Circle, Academy Gardens, bits of Lexington Park and Ashton. But not Holmesburg, as the story indicates.

What should be a tribute to a man who devoted his life to the people of a neighborhood feels a whole lot less heartfelt when the facts are wrong.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast mag wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
