Weekend News Briefs: 2/11 – 2/13

Friday — The man police believe is responsible for several 7-Eleven robberies since Sept. 2009 made an appearance Friday at a Tacony 7-Eleven. But instead of robbing it again, he offered the clerk a wad of cash and apologized for taking the money in the past. The suspect (between 21 and 25 with short dark hair and a medium build), fled after the clerk told him to leave and pushed the police button. The suspect appeared to have track marks on his arm.

Saturday — For the third time in two year,  a Torresdale family has had a close call. A driver — drunk and sleeping — crashed into a concrete barrier around 5 a.m. Saturday where Torresdale Avenue ends at Convent Lane. The barrier was put up after two other drunk drivers crashed into the property at the T-intersection. The family was not hurt; the driver was charged with DUI.

Sunday — Four people suffered non-life-threatening injuries after an early morning crash on Roosevelt Boulevard. The driver of a Toyota Highlander was going north in the inner lanes when he lost control at Ryan Avenue near Lexington Park. The car struck three other vehicles before landing on its roof. Charges are expected against the driver.
