Lexington Park state trooper facing drug charges

A state trooper from Lexington Park faces drug charges after allegedly stealing from an undercover Internal Affairs officer. Bret Gonzalez, 28, is charged with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

IAD set up a sting Tuesday following four complaints that he’d stolen money from people during traffic stops. Upon arresting him, troopers found six hypodermic needles, a heart-shaped spoon, a bag of cotton and a cup with suspected heroin residue, all of which Gonzalez admitted to using for heroin injection.

He’s been suspended without pay and awaits a preliminary hearing.
