Officer hospitalized after second-story fall

A 15th District Police officer was moved to the intensive care unit at Hahnemann University Hospital after he fell from a second-story window during a struggled with a suspect.

Officer Ernie Walker and his partner arrived at a home on the 6300-block of Leonard Street around 4:30 Tuesday morning in repines to a domestic dispute call.

While his partner reviewed the status of a restraining order the occupant had against he boyfriend, who had forced his way into the home, Walker made his way to the second floor to contain the man.

During a struggle, Walker and the suspect tumbled out the second-story window, sending both to the hospital with injuries.

The suspect suffered a broken leg. Walker was initially treated for minor injuries, but was admitted to the ICU after tests revealed more serious head injuries. He remains in stable condition.

The suspect will be charged with assault on a police officer, violating a restraining order, and burglary.
