Old City Creative Corridor meeting

More than 100 people came together for the May Old City Creative Corridor meeting at The Trust Venue this past Wednesday, May 18 to discuss growing the Old City creative community and emphasizing Old City’s artistic personality.

The discussion panel styled forum featured, Gary Steuer (Philadelphia’s Chief Cultural Officer and Director of the city’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy), Hilary Jay (Executive Director and Founder of DesignPhiladelphia), Michelle Shannon (Vice-President, Marketing & Communications of Center City District), and Susan Miller Davis (Public Art Consultant and Former Director of the RDA’s Public Art Program), and moderator Caroline Tiger (Philadelphia based design & lifestyle journalist).

The audience was full of students, business owners, musicians, artists, application developers, graphic artists, web developers, writers, architects and more. All of whom came to the meeting to learn about art-driven community transformations. Topics ranged from successful design districts, to the development of neighborhoods like Northern Liberties, to branding Old City, and to encouraging businesses to work together through projects and events.

In addition to a stimulating discussion and a new perspective to look at the community through, the 100+ people in attendance enjoyed food from neighborhood restaurants, like Race Street Cafe, Dinardo’s Famous Crabs and Cafe Ole, paired with drinks from Neri Wine Cellars and Triumph Brewing, and ice cream from Franklin Fountain.
