Update: Teen’s body pulled from Delaware River after he jumped in to save friends

Updated Thursday, May 26 at 10 p.m. — Police have recovered the body of 17-year-old William Wilkinson, an Abraham Lincoln High School student. Wilkinson was found around 4:30 p.m. about 30 feet from the pier he jumped off.

A rescue mission became one of recovery last night after a teenager went missing in the Delaware River in Holmesburg. The teen reportedly jumped into the water to assist a cousin and his friend.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. off the 7700-block of State Road when a 17-year-old girl fell into the water. Her 18-year-old friend jumped in after her, but the two began to struggle. That’s when this teen, now presumed dead, jumped in to help.

Two Good Samaritans also jumped into the water, and were able to save the girl and her friend. The third teen remains missing.
