Fox Chase Art Group an outlet for artists of all stages

Every Monday at 1 p.m., an artist colony springs up at the Fox Chase Library. They deal in water colors, pastels and acrylics.

The Fox Chase Art Group has been meeting for nine years at the library. Local artist Robert Mellin, the unofficial leader of the loose-knit group, said all are welcome to join the group in their love of art.

Mellin says attendance varies from eight to 20 people, and there are 17 regular members. Artist Robert Obodzinsky began meeting with the group about three years ago. He said there isn’t formal instruction with the group, instead, new artists can learn by watching established artists and, when comfortable, begin their own painting.

The Fox Chase Art Group exhibits its work in the area. Last year the group presented an exhibit/reception at the library of members’ works that was very well attended, and this September, the library will display members’ art for the community to enjoy.

In addition members will display their art Sept. 24 at the Pennypack Arts and Crafts Show at the Pennypack Environmental Center on Verree Road, and on November 4 at The Holy Redeemer Arts Show on Huntingdon Pike.
