Fewer vendors, more dancing at Taste of Northeast Philly [video]

Though Saturday’s annual Taste of Northeast Philly event boasted fewer vendors than usual, the crowd was as lively as ever.

Staples like Chickie’s and Pete’s, The Dining Car and Three Monkeys Cafe dished out customers’ favorites in Father Judge High School’s cafeteria alongside first-timers like DNH Caterers and Lipkin’s bakery, while Northeast residents carried armfuls of loaded plates to their tables to chat and watch the Flyers on flatscreen TVs.

Upstairs in the gym, Sir Rod and Rockin’ with the Rickus entertained the hundreds of attendees who’d purchased tickets by the table-full.

Every fall, Judge hosts the filling event to help raise money for the school through ticket sales, raffles and gift baskets while vendors bring their signature foods for attendees to sample. And though the Flyers skated their way to a win on the cafeteria TVs, the Phillies’ NLDS loss the night before meant the gym was meant for dancing. While previous years saw Phillies fans anxiously watching playoff games upstairs, the dance floor was packed all night, even despite the full bellies.
