Architect who did Penn Treaty master plan selected for Columbia Avenue improvement project

Studio Bryan Hanes, the same landscape architecture firm that developed the master plan for Penn Treaty Park, has been selected to design the Columbia Avenue Connector – a project that would improve the linkage between the riverfront park and the Fishtown neighborhood.

“We want a continuous design, so it was a logical choice to choose the architect for Penn Treaty,” said Delaware River Waterfront Corporation Director of Planning Sarah Thorp. “Plus, he really knocked the interview out of the park,” added DRWC Vice President for Operations Joe Forkin. Staff interviewed three firms for the job, and Bryan Hanes also showed the wherewithal to complete the design in time for DRWC to share it with PennDOT.

PennDOT comes into play here because they are redoing the I-95 overpass of Columbia Avenue, and will absorb some costs of the connector project. Read more about that in this previous story.

The DRWC board agreed to pay up to $127,000 for design and engineering services.
