South Philly Food Co-op launches ‘Shop South Philly’ program

On December 1, 2011, the South Philly Food Co-op will launch their “Shop South Philly” program as a benefit to its member-owners and as an effort to increase patronage of local businesses. The program will give South Philly Food Co-op members access to special discounts and promotional pricing on products and services at participating local businesses. “Shop South Philly” is also intended to strengthen neighborhood relationships between the Co-op’s member-owners and local businesses. The program will widen the customer base for these businesses, improve customer loyalty, increase sales and will help in building a stronger local economy in South Philadelphia.

Participating businesses are located throughout South Philly’s various neighborhoods including Bella Vista, East Passyunk Crossing, Newbold, Passyunk Square, and Pennsport. The co-op will advertise each businesses’ logo, contact information and website. Co-op member-owners need only to show their South Philly Food Co-op membership card to receive the offered discount.  More information about participating businesses and member pricing can be found at www.southphillyfoodcoop.org/shop-south-philly.  As of the launch of the program, the following businesses are participating:

Bartram’s Garden

Bennett Compost

Frame Fatale

Fringe Salon

Grindcore House

Living Water Massage

Lucky Old Souls Burger Truck

Monster Minders

Motherland Midwifery

The Co-op is looking for locally-owned and like-minded businesses to share in the vision to strengthen the South Philadelphia community. Businesses located in or near South Philadelphia and who are looking to promote their business, should contact shopsouthphilly@southphillyfoodcoop.org about participating in the program. This program is a true partnership in which participating businesses will have access to the Co-op’s growing list of members and supporters in their shared target demographic.

The South Philly Food Co-op also invites any resident of South Philadelphia who is interested in receiving this benefit of membership to become a member-owner of their own store. Along with access to the Shop South Philly program, member-owners have a say in what products and services the store offers and the policies that govern it. Anyone interested in becoming a member owner should visit www.southphillyfoodcoop.org to fill out a membership application.
