Right NEast/Wrong NEast: Many things go wrong when a bus crashes on Hunting Park Avenue

Aside from the actual thing that went wrong Dec. 9 when a bus hit a teenage boy at Hunting Park and Kensington Avenue, the TV media outlets made sure some other things went wrong, too.

First, we know the crash happened on the other side of the Frankford Creek, meaning it didn’t occur in the Northeast. Strike one for Action News.

Action News did something interesting here. The screenshot below, sent to us via email newsletter by a reader, clearly shows the station first reported this as being in the Northeast.

But the story says the crash happened in Tigoa-Nicetown, with no mention of the Northeast except in the story tags. Either way, the location is all wrong. Strikes two and three.

Fox29 has just one strike, but we’re going to count it as two. See for yourself:

Yes, that crash at Kensington and Hunting Park somehow happened in Torresdale. That’s more than seven miles away. Funny thing is, this crash didn’t even happen on Torresdale Avenue, so we’re not sure how Fox managed to make this decision. Obviously there was no map involved.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
