Central Delaware Master Plan update

Since releasing the draft executive summary of the Central Delaware Master Plan in mid-June, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation has received about 100 comments, said Master Plan Manager Sarah Thorp.

The comments on the summary document and on the full, 250-page draft report, which was released last week, are being entered into a data base, Thorp said. The public comment period lasts until August 26, and then the comments will be compiled, and will be used to modify the draft.

The final version of the master plan should be completed in early October, she said. It will be presented to the Philadelphia City Planning Commission, which will then at a later meeting vote on adopting the plan.

Board member Alan Greenberger, who is also deputy mayor and the chairman of the PCPC, estimated the vote would take place in November or December.

PCPC Executive Director Gary Jastrzab explained that after the city adopts the master plan, it would be used to guide the zoning remapping of the Central Delaware, which runs from Oregon to Allegheny avenues.

“How soon will we have teeth behind the plan?” DRWC Board Member Bill Hankowsky asked. The teeth come from the zoning changes.

“Probably within the first six months,” of 2012,” Jastrzab said.
