Parks and Recreation unveils green Fishtown rec center project

The Department of Parks and Recreation will unveil today a $1.2 million, six-block green project in Fishtown, the Daily News reports. The department’s “Green Connection: Shissler to the River” initiative will replace Shissler Rec’s cinder baseball and soccer field with greens that will prevent storm-water runoff and create a more comfortable playing surface. The plan will also help beautify a section of the neighborhood starting at the recreation field and continuing south down Frankford Avenue and then southeast at Columbia Avenue to Penn Treaty Park.
