SEPTA to subsidize tourist shuttle to Zoo, Please Touch

The Philadelphia Phlash tourist shuttle will again serve the Philadelphia Zoo and Please Touch Museum this summer.

The SEPTA Board approved $239,000 in subsidies to the Central Philadelphia Transportation Management Association, an arm of the Center City District, to pay for the service.

Service will run from May through the end of October.

The extension began in 2009 and served 18,000 SEPTA passholders, who can ride the Phlash for free.

In other news, SEPTA experienced an eighth straight month of ridership gains in March.

So far, there have been 10.1 million more total trips by riders this fiscal year than last year, Richard Burnfield, SEPTA’s CFO and treasurer, told the SEPTA Board.

The authority closed the month with a $1.4 million surplus.
