Two new Navy Yard restaurants?

A new restaurant or two could be coming to the Navy Yard.

The Philadelphia City Planning Commission Tuesday approved subdivision of two new parcels and lot line adjustments for two others, benefiting Urban Outfitters and P&A Associates.

P&A plans to open a 228-seat restaurant – with 76 of those seats as an outdoor cafe – at an existing brick building at 4499 South Broad Street. P&A told Planner Brian Wenrich they are not ready to release any additional information about their project yet. Commissioners approved subdividing a new development parcel around this site, known as Parcel 7KK. (see the video for a look at the building.)

Plot line adjustments around a building Urban Outfitters already owns at the Delaware River, now used as a photography studio, would give Urban Outfitters more room around the exterior, and potentially allow the building to be used as a restaurant in the future, Wenrich said. “There are no definite plans,” Weinrich said, but Urban Outfitters decided that since they were seeking another subdivision change at the Navy Yard, they would seek this at the same time, just in case.

That other Urban Outfitters item would allow them to put a parking lot at 1400 Kitty Hawk Ave., the former cruise ship terminal. The terminal, which has not been used for cruises in some time, “either has been or is being sold now to Urban Outfitters for part of their corporate expansion,” Commission Chairman Alan Greenberger said.

The last Navy Yard adjustment was also related to P&A property. A plot line adjustment was made at 1200 Constitution Avenue, the former Navy recreation center. A portion of the building was not included in the original subdivision, Wenrich said.
