Two Northeast meetings planned on search for new school district superintendent
Two meetings have been scheduled in the Northeast this month to discuss the search for the new superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia.
Former superintendent Arlene Ackerman was bought out last year following months of internal conflict and accusations, and her second-in-command, Leroy Nunnery, was named interim superintendent.
Chief among the criteria for the new superintendent is “knowledge and capacity to run a large enterprise organization,” according to the search plan outlined by School Reform Commission members Lorene Cary and Feather Houstoun.
A series of community engagement hearings has been set up to review the criteria, after which a feedback report will be compiled the search will begin. The new superintendent is expected to be in place by July.
Community meetings are open to the public. In the Northeast, one is set for Saturday at Lincoln High School at 1 p.m. and another will take place Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Northeast High School.
