Dog of the Week: Lola

LOLA (FKA LILLY) A14980718 No need to go to the Copacabana, we’ve got your Lola right here! Our Lola’s a 3- to 5-year-old cinnamon colored pit bull mix with eyes the color of warm honey. And while she might not wear yellow feathers in her hair, Lola has been known to wear a sassy bandanna on occasion in the hopes of catching the eye of potential adopters!

Lola has a sad backstory. She was surrendered to the shelter by a family that kept her outside day and night, 365 days a year, rain or shine. Here, Lola finally has a roof over her head, but she’s still waiting for the loving family she’s been denied so far in life.

Lola’s a friendly, wiggly girl who doesn’t seem to have had much in the way of training, because her manners can occasionally be somewhat lacking. Lola acts like she’s never been walked on a leash before, and appears to be a bit under-socialized with other dogs, as her interactions with them are often awkward and inconsistent.

The shelter has a program for dogs just like Lola, who maybe haven’t learned just yet all the fun stuff they need to know in order to become good citizens. This program iscalled the Pen Pals, and Lola is now teamed up with two – count ’em, two – volunteers who come in all the time to work with her on her leash manners and help her become more comfortable around other dogs. They ain’t no Tony and Rico, but they’re alright!

Lola’s also been learning some fun stuff from her pen pals, like the “sit,” “paw” and “down” commands. Turns out Lola’s a fast learner who also happens to be highly food motivated. This will make training her a breeze once she has the stability and consistency of a forever home.

If you do think you might be interested in Lola, be forewarned: your home must be religiously stocked with squeaky toys and tennis balls! Lola can entertain herself for hours just tossing her toys in the air and then chasing after them. Lola’s finally ready to come in from the cold and warm your heart. These animals are located at Philadelphia’s animal control shelter, ACCT. They need immediate adoption or foster care. ACCT is located at 111 W Hunting Park Ave and is open 365 days a year.
