Demolition underway at Frankford’s Central United Methodist Church [slideshow]

Demolition has begun at Frankfords’ Central United Methodist Church at Griscom and Orthodox streets.

Word came last month that the dilapidated building was to be demolished, just a few months after windows were broken at the now fenced-in church. The city arranged the demolition, but Frankford Grou Ministry, the owner, won’t be able to sell the property until it pays the city back.

The church was built in the 1890s and offered services until 2005. Now, it’s a safety hazard.

It’s not clear what plans Frankford Group Ministry has for the property.
