Application period open for Citizen’s Planning Institute

Now through March 27, the Philadelphia Citizen’s Planning Institute is accepting application for the next round of courses.

Established last year for residents to take advantage of, the institute offers a series of courses to help engage citizens in Philadelphia’s planning process.

This Spring, accepted residents can take the three-session core course and three elective courses to study planning, land use, zoning, design practices and vacant land policy. The core program begins April 18 and must be completed before elective courses, scheduled for mid-May, can be taken.

Eighty-nine people have graduated from the program since last Fall, but few of them are from the Northeast. At last week’s Holme Circle Civic Association meeting, Planning Commission community planner Mike Thompson encouraged members to apply for a spot to help them prepare for their neighborhood’s eventual participation in Philadelphia2035.

Applications are available on the institute’s website, and are due by 5 p.m. March 27.
