Telling Philadelphia’s story, North Central NID argued and amended, Nicetown Court, no Healing Way in Holmesburg, Olney’s Schwarzwald Inn, budget hearings begin

Good morning Streeters! After my walkabout today, I’ll be at this evening’s Library in the City event. Hope you find a way to enjoy the absolutely beautiful day today by taking lunch outside or ducking out of work for a long walk. If you need an excuse, tell the boss you’re on a spring mix photo mission for EOTS.

The Philadelphia History Museum wants your Philadelphia Story. Temple News visited the recently reopened museum and finds a less stuffy presentation of Philadelphiana, as well as ways the public can participate in telling the city’s history by contributing to the forthcoming “Community Voices” exhibit.

City Council’s Rules Committee made 17 amendments to Darrell Clarke’s bill to create the North Central NID, reports PlanPhilly’s Jared Brey. Hours of public testimony about the NID demonstrate that the neighborhood is not yet on board with Clarke’s proposal.

The Inquirer checks in on Nicetown Court, a new mixed-use building on Germantown Avenue, the latest sign of reinvestment and revitalization in Nicetown. The property was jointly developed by Nicetown CDC and Universal Companies, and features 37 affordable apartment units above a medical office and a salon/spa on the ground floor.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment rejected plans by Healing Way to open a methadone clinic on Frankford Avenue in Holmesburg, NEast Philly reports. Holmesburg neighbors and Northeast legislators have been fighting against the clinic for months, claiming that the proposal came as a total surprise and that if built the clinic would be a drag on the local economy and residential community.

Curbed Philly looks and the storied history of Olney’s Schwarzwald Inn, once a place to hobnob with swells or have a family function. Today, the restaurant – complete with three bars and a liquor license – is on the market.

Tonight is the city’s first budget hearing [pdf], and City Council is taking the show on the road. Tonight’s meeting is at 6pm at St. John’s AME Church (71st at Yocum). Sign up to testify by calling the Chief Clerk’s office 215-686-3407.
