April brings two new businesses to Fox Chase

April is bringing two new businesses to the Oxford Avenue business district in Fox Chase. Thanks to The Blooming Artist Studio and Little Bits Of Everything Antiques shop, there is now a no vacancy sign along the avenue, bucking trends in other areas.

Local artist and owner of The Blooming Artist Studio, Nora McClosky is moving her studio from Rockledge to Fox Chase at 7971 Oxford Ave. McClosky is scheduled to open for business on April 9 following a renovation of the studio space.

“We are delighted by the move to Fox Chase, as it gives us an opportunity to expand our program offerings to the community with the increased space,” McClosky said.

She said the Blooming Artist Studio currently has 100 students and expects to increase the student population with the increase in space. McClosky intends to expand program offerings such as adult art workshops upon opening. The Blooming Artist Studio is a co-sponsor of the annual Fox Chase Arts in the Park to be held in May in Lions Park.

Next door to the artist studio at 7967 Oxford Ave. will be the home of Little Bits of Everything that opens on April 21 following extensive renovations to the store.

Owner Virginia Wuest stressed that the shop is not a thrift shop.

“We are going green with refurbished and antique furniture available to the community at a good price,” she said. “The store will also have an offering of gifts and collectibles.”

The grand opening will include a band and buffet for local residents to enjoy while becoming familiar with the store.G.E. Reutter resides in the Fox Chase. You can visit him at his website. You can read his Fox Chase articles for NEast Philly here.
