Right NEast/Wrong NEast: Despite name, little Northeast presence in Philly Weekly’s events calendar

Philadelphia Weekly has released its 2012 Summer Guide, described as such:

“Looking for summer excitement in your neighborhood—or an excuse to explore new parts of the city? Either way, you’re golden: Here’s our compass-based manual for locating the hottest fun to be found around Philly, one direction at a time!”

The guide is broken down by region, and Northeast and Northwest Philly have their very own section. Except it reads more like the Northwest Philly section with one NE event thrown in for good measure.

Three months of summer and how many Northeast events are in the guide? One: “X-mas in July” at the Grey Lodge.

Even if that was the only bar in the entire Northeast PW reached out to, why not include more events from the Grey Lodge, and from Hop Angel, which has the same owner? We count seven event listings from the Grape Room in Manayunk, plus multiple listings for other Northwest locales.

No mention of the huge Fourth of July celebration in Lawncrest; the free concerts in Tacony, Pennypack Park and the Philadelphia Protestant Home; or the neighborhood bars chock full of bands, drink specials and other events.

“Northwest and Northeast Philly Guide?” We think not.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
