Final Lower Northeast District planning meaning set for Aug. 7

The third and final planning meeting for the Lower Northeast District is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 7 at Globe Dye Works [map] in Frankford.

The first two meetings - held in April and June - called on residents, business owners and other invested community members to talk about their visions for Frankford, Northwood, Lawncrest, Summerdale, Oxford Circle and part of Castor Gardens.

After identifying their neighborhoods' strengths, weaknesses and opportunities, participants settled on transit, greenery and better connectivity among the neighborhoods as key issues. The Philadelphia City Planning Commission led those meetings, and will lead the third, as part of the city's Philadelphia2035 plan - the comprehensive plan for the city's future.

The draft plan will be presented at Tuesday's meeting, where the public can learn more about ideas for a Frankford Creek greenway, a Frankford artisan district, transit on Roosevelt Boulevard, Castor Avenue improvements and zoning issues.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., and studios inside Globe Dye Works will be open.
