Ortlieb’s: ‘I’ll Miss You’

Any day now we anticipate that the Ortlieb’s Brew House and Stock House in Northern Liberties will be demolished. As I wrote earlier this month, the demolition comes at the hands of Bart Blatstein who essentially neglected the buildings into their current state of dramatic ruin during his decade-plus ownership. As neighborhood and preservation advocates wish for Blatstein to change his mind and adapt the old brewery complex, rather than erasing this piece of defining neighborhood fabric, others are finding a way to say goodbye.

Tes and Daniel Davison hoisted a flag high in the tree growing from Ortlieb’s roofline that says “I’ll miss you.” Daniel Davison wrote that the flag and film were a way to say farewell to the building, but also to let the building itself say goodbye to the neighborhood. Here’s their short film:
