Positive drug test in crash that killed 2 on Bustleton Avenue [updated]

In less than 24 hours, a business was damaged and two people were killed in separate accidents along two very different parts of Bustleton Avenue.

Charges were filed Wednesday against 33-year-old Mayfair resident Robert Bregenzer. His bail is set at $500,000 and he’s due in court in two weeks for DUI, homicide by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle, simple assault and reckless endangerment of another person charges [updated Nov. 14, 3 p.m.]. In the early morning crash Tuesday, two people were killed at Bustleton Avenue and St. Vincent Street when Bregenzer’s GMC allegedly hit a Honda, causing the Honda to crash into a Jeep. Bregenzer was arrested after drug paraphernalia was found inside the GMC.

Bregenzer tested positive for heroin; morphine; cocaine; marijuana; and the prescription drugs alprazolam, and zolpidem.

Around noon the day before, a driver crashed a car through the window of a Sunoco APlus store at Bustleton Avenue and Byberry Road in Somerton. The entire vehicle ended up in the store, but no injuries were reported.
