Talk: Diana Lind: The Resourceful City: How Cities Flourish Despite Constraints

Awards: 2013 Ed Bacon Prize: John Hickenlooper + Student Design Competition winners

Thursday, February 21, 5:30-8:30pm. Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch Street. John Hickenlooper, Governor of Colorado, and winner of this year’s Edmund Bacon Prize for achievements in urban planning, development and design. The winning teams from this year’s 2013 Ed Bacon Student Design Competition will also be awarded. Advance registration required. $25, $20 for members, or $15 for students.

Discussion: Learning from Sandy: Is Philadelphia prepared for the next natural disaster?

As part of the Urban Sustainability Forum series, panelists will discuss lessons from Hurricane Sandy to reduce our vulnerability and manage the risk of building and living in hazard-prone areas through better planning, engineering, and policy. Drexel professor Scott Gabriel Knowles, author of The Disaster Experts, will moderate the panel discussion, featuring Chris Linn (DVRPC), Howard Kunreuther (Wharton Business School), Lori Peek (Colorado State University), and MaryAnn Tierney (FEMA, Region III).
