Aria Health-Torresdale breaks ground on emergency facility

Aria Health-Torresdale celebrated a groundbreaking Monday for an extension to its emergency facility.

Pa. Sens. Mike Stack, D-5th; and Tommy Tomlinson, R-6th,  were there to help mark the occasion, which was approved last summer for $3 million under the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. The whole project will cost $37 million.

“This isn’t just making something bigger,” Stack said. “It’s making it better and providing a better quality of life for this region with a world-class facility and technology that will improve care and save lives.”

Construction is expected to finish next year, at which point the hospital’s emergency department will have 12 additional beds for a total of 42. Aria expects to add 200 jobs to the 1,500 already at its Torresdale campus.

The hospital recently used RACP funding for its new parking garage. The $9 million project was completed in July.
