Why are there so many homes for sale on the same street? [Real NEastate]

Q: I am looking for a home in the Far Northeast. I have noticed that there are several homes for sale on the same street. I would like to see one of them because the pictures look great online, but I am worried there is a problem with that street or something. Should I just avoid it?

A: Just because there are several homes for sale on the same street, does not necessarily mean there is something “wrong” with the street. It could simply be a matter of bad timing on the block and neighbors find themselves in the same situation of selling their home at the same time. You should also take into account that there can be up to 30 homes on the same block at times when you are considering row homes.

Or it could just be a long street that goes for several blocks. For example, in the Parkwood area, there are five homes actively for sale on Medford Road. Not only is Medford one of the longest in the neighborhood, but the street also splits into two completely different streets. Two of those five homes for sale are on a different street than the other three, even though they are both Medford Road. And every one of those homes for sale is on a completely different block.

Go see the house if you think you might like it. Ask your agent to get you some answers about the block. If you think you might want to buy it, and you feel bold enough, go ahead and knock on some neighbors’ doors and ask about the neighborhood. It’s up to you to find out. But don’t just avoid a house you might like.

Good luck!
