‘Welcome to Somerton’ sign stolen again

A sign welcoming people to Somerton has been stolen for the second time since it was installed about six months ago.

The “Welcome to Somerton” sign at Trevose Road and Bustleton Avenue likely went missing some time Monday evening.

Whoever took it “literally cut it perfectly on either end,” Somerton Civic Association board member Seth Kaplan said. Kaplan works for Pa. Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-170th, who had the sign replaced when it was removed from the ground just a few days after it was first installed. The second sign was put up about a month ago; this time, the posts were left intact. Boyle’s office won’t be able to install yet another sign.

“It’s probably sitting in someone’s house, ” Kaplan said. He’s hoping if a relative or friend of the thief notices the sign, that person will return it — no questions asked. “We just want the sign back.”

Anyone with information about who might have the sign can email Kaplan at skaplan [AT] pahouse [DOT] net.
