Right NEast/Wrong NEast: 2 out of 3 TV stations can’t read a street sign

Can you tell the difference between Northeast and Northwest Philadelphia? Can you tell whether a street sign says Walnut Lane or Walnut Hill Street?

CBS3 had trouble with both over the weekend when they arrived at 2817 Walnut Hill St. in Holme Circle to report on an animal hoarding case. Because despite apparently being on the scene and at some point passing a street sign, the station told readers the case took place on Walnut Lane. 

NBC10 did slightly better by calling it Walnut Hill Road. Action News managed to correctly read the street sign.

Walnut Lane and Walnut Hill Street are about 11 miles away. That’s quite embarrassing. But not embarrassing enough for the station to correct, even after a reader pointed out the error in the comments. If something as simple as the location is wrong, how will readers be able to trust the news they get?

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
