South Philadelphia District Planning starts this week

The South District Plan is a 10-month process to focus attention on South Philadelphia as part of the wider Philadelphia Comprehensive Plan. It includes publid input, discussions with city agencies, presentation to elected officials and a list of recommendations to help prioritize inestment decisions and inform zoning.

South Philadelphia has a unique and varied history of immigration that continues today. The legacy is in its unique and thriving cultural corridors, restaurants, and intact residential communities.

Strengths of the district include its proximity to employment opportunities, a steadily growing population, and a variety of transportation options and walkably scaled streets.

The South District Plan includes 3 public meetings and presentations to the Philadelphia City Planning Commission beginning in December of 2014 and ending in June of 2015. Please check back often for important dates.

  • First public meeting – The South District Plan’s first public meeting will be on Thursday, December 4th, at 6pm. The meeting will take place at South Philadelphia High School, at 2101 S Broad Street. We invite residents of the district to attend to provide feedback that will help shape future development and direct public investment. There will be a presentation of existing conditions and then interactive mapping exercises. Please find the link to the flyer here.

  • Second public meeting – early February
  • Third public meeting – mid-April
